Built for demanding heavy-haul operations, the CASTROMAX® CST-MX-3 LOWBED combines a 60,000 kg payload capacity, three 12-tonne axles, a 9,000 mm loading platform and a practical 500 mm mechanical side-extension system.

Designed for the transportation of heavy construction machinery, plant equipment, industrial loads, marine craft and other heavy or oversized cargo, the CST-MX-3 provides a straightforward and durable solution for operators who require serious carrying capacity without the complexity of a telescopic or fully hydraulically steered trailer.

AXLE CONFIGURATION AND MANOEUVRABILITY

The CST-MX-3 LOWBED uses a practical three-axle running-gear configuration engineered for heavy-duty transport while keeping maintenance requirements and system complexity under control.

The first axle is equipped with an axle-lift system, allowing the axle to be lifted under suitable operating and load conditions.

This can help reduce unnecessary tyre wear and rolling resistance when the full axle group is not required.

The second axle is fixed, providing stability within the axle group.

The third axle is self-steering, improving manoeuvrability during cornering while reducing tyre scrub compared with a completely fixed tridem axle configuration.

This combination makes the CST-MX-3 particularly suitable for operators looking for a robust heavy-equipment transporter with straightforward operation and practical manoeuvrability.

MECHANICAL PLATFORM WIDTH EXTENSION

The standard 2,550 mm loading platform can be mechanically widened by 250 mm on each side.

This increases the usable platform width to approximately 3,050 mm when both extensions are deployed.

The side extensions provide additional support for wider tracked machinery, construction equipment and other loads that exceed the standard transport-platform width.

Unlike a hydraulically widening platform, the mechanical system keeps the structure straightforward and reduces unnecessary hydraulic complexity.

REAR HYDRAULIC LOADING RAMPS

The CST-MX-3 LOWBED is designed for rear loading through hydraulic double-fold loading ramps.

The ramps can hydraulically extend or retract laterally by 200 mm, allowing their position to be adjusted according to the track width of the machinery being loaded.

The loading surfaces are finished with timber and steel sections, creating a practical loading interface for construction machinery, tracked equipment and other heavy plant.

The double-fold design also helps maintain practical ramp geometry while keeping the ramps compact in transport position.

CHASSIS AND MATERIALS

The chassis is manufactured using certified high-strength structural steels:

• SSAB S700MC PLUS — 700 MPa yield strength
• S355J2+N — 355 MPa yield strength

High-strength structural steel allows CASTROMAX® engineers to optimize chassis strength, load distribution and structural durability for demanding heavy-haul applications.

The trailer is engineered around real operating loads rather than simply increasing material thickness, allowing strength and structural performance to be balanced with practical operating weight.

PAINT PROTECTION

The chassis and structural surfaces undergo a complete industrial surface-treatment process.

All surfaces are shot-blasted before receiving:

BRAKING AND SAFETY SYSTEMS

The CST-MX-3 LOWBED uses a dual-circuit electro-pneumatic WABCO EBS 2S/2M braking system with ABS and Roll Stability Support.

The braking system is designed in accordance with UN ECE R13 requirements.

The trailer also incorporates monitoring and safety equipment designed for professional heavy-haul operation, including tyre-pressure and temperature monitoring, axle-group load indication and automatic ride-height control.
